Meet the Women of Tarter Krinsky & Drogin: Litigation Counsel Debra Bodian Bernstein

March 22, 2018

Throughout Women’s History Month, we have been shining light on the women of Tarter Krinsky & Drogin. They are talented leaders in their field, and indispensable assets to our firm, clients and community. In this installment, learn more about Litigation counsel Debra Bodian Bernstein.

What woman most inspires you and why?
I would say it’s all the women who came before me as trailblazers in the legal field, when there were many obstacles that often made it challenging for a woman to go to law school and to have a successful career as an attorney. From Sandra Day O’Connor, who was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court when I was in high school and starting to have an interest in a legal career, to a young, female solo practitioner with whom I was paired in high school during a career day program, these women inspired me to pursue a career in law.

What do you like most about your field of work?
As a litigator, I really enjoy learning about my clients’ businesses, thinking of creative and practical ways to solve disputes and advocating on their behalf to obtain the desired results. It never gets boring – each client and each case presents unique issues and challenges.

What do you enjoy most about working at TKD?
I love what I do for a living, but perhaps most important is the fact that I work with such a friendly, team-oriented and talented group of people at TKD. It truly is a collegial atmosphere, and it’s a place that I have enjoyed coming to each day for the past 15+ years.

What advice would you give to young women who want to succeed in the workplace?
If you genuinely enjoy the type of work that you do and with whom you are working, are able to maintain perspective by having outside interests and a good work-life balance, and are able to take things in stride, you will be on the road to a successful career.

What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
Women’s History Month focuses on highlighting the achievements of women throughout the history of our country. I find it inspirational to reflect on some of their stories, and enlightening to learn about some incredible women who were not acknowledged at the time for their achievements.
