Andrew Koerner was featured in the New York Law Journal on June 28, 2013. The article, titled “Attorneys Have a ‘Lot to Analyze’ in Gauging the Impact of DOMA Ruling on Client Benefits”, addresses the recent decision and how federal benefits and procedures will start to affect same-sex couples. Andrew discussed how United States V. Windsor will impact certain areas of immigration, specifically one of his foreign clients and her soon to be spouse. In the wake of this decision, his client’s partner “will be able to apply for the same visa that opposite-sex spouses entering the United States on work visas are granted”. Andrew also addressed that it may take a while for all of this to be implemented and for USCIS to fully change its guidelines. He advised that “agencies and their staffs are going to need guidance on how to move forward” in order for this implementation to take place.
