Richard Steer, a Partner in Tarter Krinsky & Drogin’s Labor and Employment Practice, gave a presentation on “The New DOL: A Changing Landscape” at the Legislative & Legal Committee Conference of the Human Resources Association of New York (HRNY).
Joining Mr. Steer in the presentation to an audience of about 85 human resources professionals was Brian Sanvidge, Director of Business Fraud and Investigations at Holtz Rubenstein Reminick LLP, a leading CPA and business advisory firm.
Richard discussed the IRS test of independent contractor status, as well as other factors that courts and the New York State Department of Labor have used to determine a worker’s independent contractor status. They also covered exemptions to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), government audits, and other wage and hour matters.
